Clearing brush

I have really neglected to keep brush in check for the last several years. This strand of willow saplings has always bothered me – it’s too dense to be useful for anything and blocks the view of a good chunk of the hill behind it. A mild February and better work-life-balance was a nice opportunity to hit it with the hedge trimmer and pole saw. All before the red wing blackbirds take up residence!

I still have a bit of honeysuckle in the walnut grove behind that to clear, then the brush on the downslope of the septic mound that I try to clear each spring that always grows back. I’ll try hitting all patches with a healthy dose of triclopyr from a hose spray this year, as spot-spraying is too time-consuming and the hose attachment seems to be easier to find at the hardware store. I also want to take these scrappy box elders down. I have a few epic brush piles to burn this spring,

I would love to tackle the honeysuckle in the back corner of the property, but I suspect the garden will demand the majority of my chore time in the coming months.
